Title: 6th grader Brody Poyry sets new record for Charles County Cross Country Invitational
On October 21, 2023 in a thrilling display of determination and athletic prowess, Brody Poyry, a middle school student in Charles County, recently made waves at the Charles County Middle School Cross Country Invitational sponsored by North Point High School. With a remarkable performance, Brody not only clinched the first-place position but also set a new record for the 2400m race.

The previous record for the 2400m race was more than 10 minutes, but Brody was determined to set a new record as a personal goal. He shattered his own expectations, crossing the finish line in a breathtaking 9 minutes and 47 seconds, securing his place in the history books and earning the admiration of fellow athletes, coaches, and spectators alike.
What makes Brody's achievement even more impressive is that he didn't just outpace his fellow 6th graders; he outperformed every competitor across all three grade levels—6th, 7th, and 8th graders—in Charles County. Brody's remarkable feat speaks to his dedication, hard work, and unwavering passion for the sport.

“Brody is fearless, and that is just one of his superpowers”, says his mother Melle Poyry after his spectacular race. Coach Rohan, who has been training young athletes for years as the head coach of Southern Sprinters Elite and training Brody since he was 6 years old, shared his thoughts on Brody's achievement. "Brody's commitment and work ethic are truly exceptional. He's not just a talented runner; he's a role model for all young athletes, and he is just getting started."
